VR Demo at MAVRIC 2018 Conference

Launched in 2017 through matching funds from the Department of Commerce's Economic Development Agency (EDA) through an i6 Challenge Grant and the University of Maryland, College Park, MAVRIC was founded to connect and empower the XR ecosystem across the campus and the mid-Atlantic.

Journalist, immersive producer, curator and fashion photographer, Darragh Dandurand dissects her published campaign about Magic Leap, the first-ever street-style look-book for the ML1. She presents on how the future of fashion is wearable technology, which XR is uniquely preparing itself for. With the tech industry grossing $3 trillion annually, fashion is not far behind at $2.5 trillion.

Being able to visit as many companies, researchers/professors, plus speak at two events in the course of a day and a half would only have been possible with your awesome network of people doing MR in the DC area. I look forward to another trip out there in the future, and to working with you and MAVRIC in an ongoing fashion.

Use Mixed/Augmented/Virtual Reality Innovation Community (MAVRIC) to…

  • Collaborate/sponsor research projects

MAVRIC works closely with faculty at UMD, as well as with other research institutions across the mid-Atlantic. If you are interested in sponsoring a research project in the immersive space, the MAVRIC team can make introductions to researchers with relevant expertise in your area of interest.

  • Find and invest in startups

As an ecosystem builder in the immersive space, MAVRIC can facilitate introductions between investors and startups seeking funding to launch, grow, and scale their XR ventures.

  • Find entrepreneurship events

MAVRIC hosts, co-hosts, and promotes local events throughout the year. To learn more about these events and other regional events, visit MAVRIC's website.

  • Get business advice for my venture

If you have launched an AR, VR, or XR venture anywhere in the mid-Atlantic region and are in need of business advice, then contact MAVRIC at mavric@umd.edu.

  • Partner with UMD more broadly

If you are involved in the immersive space and interested in partnering with MAVRIC or UMD on an XR project, then contact MAVRIC at mavric@umd.edu.

  • Recruit interns & hire future grads

MAVRIC works closely with the Immersive Media Design program which is the only undergraduate program in the country that synthesizes art with computer science to develop immersive media. UMD students and graduates are well-prepared to bring their talent to exciting new ventures and research projects focused on emerging technologies such as immersive media. Contact MAVRIC at mavric@umd.edu to identify opportunities for recruiting and hiring some of the best talent in the country.
