Formerly affiliated with Southern Management, we are now the Terrapin Innovation Leadership Program. This new name reflects both our roots at the University of Maryland and our continued focus on innovation, leadership, and impact. We’re excited to begin this next chapter together as Terrapin Innovators.

The Terrapin Innovation Leadership Program remains dedicated to providing transfer students from Montgomery College and Prince George’s Community College with a transformative academic cohort experience. Students in the program earn a minor in Technology Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation, participate in professional development workshops, and receive impactful scholarship support to help them achieve their UMD degree.

The Terrapin Innovation Leadership Program Model of Education

The mission of the Terrapin Innovation Leadership Program is to develop entrepreneurial leaders who will use their education and experiences to make positive and lasting impacts in their local communities.

The Terrapin Innovation Leadership Program provides financial, academic and professional development assistance. Up to 40 transfer students from Montgomery College and Prince George’s Community College are selected for this transformative cohort experience each year.

Program benefits include:

  • Scholarships between 25-50% tuition at the University of Maryland for 4 semesters
  • Access to exclusive study and lounge space in Marie Mount Hall
  • One ‘Terrapin Innovators’ exclusive class each semester, culminating in a minor in Technology Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation from the A. James Clark School of Engineering
  • Professional development and social workshops to develop key skills to succeed in the workforce
  • Individual mentoring from program staff to help each student adjust to the university, thrive as a Terp, and graduate with a bachelor’s degree

Perhaps the single most important benefit to students in this unique program is access to the Terrapin Innovation Leadership Program network. So many alumni of this program have gone on to found companies, take on important leadership roles and become changemakers in their communities. Students are provided with opportunities to engage with program alumni and other local leaders throughout their time in the program.
