The University Sustainability Fund provides at least $300,000 annually for projects that:
- Improve the environmental performance of campus operations by decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing energy and/or water use, enhancing storm water management, increasing biodiversity, minimizing waste, etc.;
- Improve or create opportunities for UMD students to learn about and develop skills for sustainability; and/or
- Involve research that would create substantial opportunities for student involvement and the outcomes of the research have practical implications for improving the environmental performance of campus operations.
The Fund is supported by the Student Sustainability Fee and administered through a student-majority committee of the University Sustainability Council.
