The Mokhtarzada Hatchery was launched in 2021 to help University of Maryland students develop and launch startups. Created by Terps for Terps, the Hatchery provides dedicated working space and mentors to help student entrepreneurs get their fearless ideas and startups into the best shape possible. The Hatchery is located in the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering.

Student teams apply in the fall semester to join the Hatchery and can request funding up to $10,000 per team per year, thanks to generous support from UMD alumni and brothers Haroon '01, Idris '10, and Zeki Mokhtarzada '01.

Teams will be selected on the basis of an idea that targets interesting problems with focus and passion. A maximum of four teams will be selected to join the Hatchery each year.

Each team is paired with a successful entrepreneur who will be the team’s mentor. The students will meet regularly with their mentor and report their progress. The meetings will also be a place for students to discuss the challenges they’re working through, get assistance, and learn from their peers and mentors who may have overcome similar obstacles.
