The Architecture, Planning & Preservation Department Fabrication Lab (Fablab) serves the practical requirements within the department's curriculum. Whether pursuing a B.A., B.S., or Master's degree, the requisite studio courses all incorporate model-making. The Fablab enables students and faculty members to construct digital and physical three-dimensional scale models of urban sites, landscapes, buildings, and building components.
Within the Fablab are two shop spaces:
- One space is principally devoted to fabrication of model components in a range of materials (woods, plastics, and composites like MDF) using both traditionally analog and digital CNC shop equipment.
- The second space utilizes rapid prototyping equipment including 3D printers and laser cutters to complement the full scope of industry standard fabrication capabilities.
