Josh Doying
As a Startup Success Manager at UM Ventures - College Park, Josh supports innovative faculty and students seeking to commercialize their inventions. In partnership with I-Corps, TEDCO, and a variety of other programs, Josh works alongside inventors and their team members to de-risk the startup journey through rigorous customer discovery and product market fit. Josh views entrepreneurship as an education in customer beliefs and market forces, and enjoys developing and testing hypotheses and analyzing the results.
Prior to joining UM Ventures, Josh worked for seven years in the education industry, both as a teacher and education recruiter. He actively innovated within these roles by hacking together edTech software to rewrite his high school curriculum, designing and 3D printing math manipulatives to help students better conceptualize integers, and creating a mentoring program for first year teachers that dramatically improved teacher retention. Interested in applying innovation to entrepreneurship, Josh returned to school to earn his MBA at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland where he was a Dean's Scholar. Deeply committed to equity and social impact, Josh earned a Do Good medallion through the Do Good Institute for his work with Heart of America, was a Graduate Innovation Fellow through the Academy for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and launched an online publication for sports fan families as a member of the Terp Startup Accelerator.
