Ambi Narula
Ambi Narula is the Communications and Program Specialist at the Robert E. Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices at the University of Maryland. In this role, she supports the Institute’s communications strategy and manages community-focused programs that connect students, researchers, and the public with the Institute’s mission to advance biomedical innovation.
In addition to her role at the Institute, Narula serves as the Rainbow Community Liaison for the A. James Clark School of Engineering, where she leads queer-inclusive programming and advocates for underrepresented voices in STEM. She is also a member of the Clark School’s Engineering Senate and serves as the academic advisor for the UMD chapter of oSTEM, a national organization supporting LGBTQ+ individuals in science and engineering.
Prior to her current role, Narula earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in creative writing from the University of Maryland and is now pursuing her master’s in management at the university’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. She also serves as a teaching assistant and student track representative in the program, focusing on leadership, marketing, and innovation strategy.
Narula is the founder and executive producer of Comedy Bonfyre, a D.C.-based stand-up and storytelling series that highlights LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and women-identifying performers. Since its launch in 2021, the show has grown from a virtual series to a live production featuring comedians from Netflix, Comedy Central, Hulu, and HBO Max.
Known for her warmth, generosity, and genuine care for others, Narula is someone people turn to for support, collaboration, and encouragement. Passionate about community building and meaningful connection, she thrives on bringing people together. Whether through research, outreach, or a night of comedy, she loves finding new ways to uplift others and create spaces where everyone feels seen and valued.
